Roots & Lines: Botanical Drawing at the PACT Centre

29 April 2026 18:00

Free

This year’s subject is the Pachypodium namaquanum — known to locals as the Elephant’s Trunk, or Halfmens — a striking and ancient succulent as sculptural as the landscape it calls home.

Working with pencil, ink and observation, the young artists have spent weeks learning to truly look: to find beauty in a spine, a curve, a shadow. The final drawing in soft pastel will be 15m long, which will then be divided into 1m individual drawings.

The results are works of quiet confidence and real wonder.

Exhibition Opening

Join us for an unticketed opening evening on Wednesday, 29 April at 18:00, at 42B Botterblom Street, Prince Albert.

All artworks are available for sale, with proceeds going directly towards school uniforms and stationery for the junior artists.

Everyone is welcome. Come and celebrate these remarkable young artists and the wild beauty of the Karoo.

For the third year running, botanical drawing tutor Sally Arnold returns to the PACT Centre, joining forces once again with local youth artists Elcado Blom and Ethan Martins to guide the Kunsblom children in a close and careful exploration of the Karoo's extraordinary flora
