Nomadic Orchestra
Nomadic Orchestra plays brass music, dance music, intelligent music, and dumb music. They play whatever music they want to play and it’s always a good time had by whoever is in the audience. Describing themselves as a “motley crew of music nerds”, they are fondly referred to as “The Nomads”. Graduates of the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town, all have a deep passion for music performance and composition.
Their music keeps dance and groove at the centre of its inspiration and borrows from many different styles. Hip hop, afrobeat, ghoema, samba, ska, klezmer and various other sounds are blended into one cohesive, high-energy performance. The primary goal of The Nomads is to get people moving. The band plays an infectious kind of high-octane dance music guaranteed to get feet tapping and limbs swaying. With three full-length studio albums, many successful tours, festivals and events on their resumé, the band strives to create top-quality original music for all.
The band has been fortunate enough to play on some of the biggest stages in South Africa but have also toured in Europe and other African countries. They have shared stages with local and international acts including Gogol Bordello, Balkan Beat Box, Boom Pam, Freshly Ground, Majozi, Matthew Mole, Beatenberg, Jeremy Loops and many more.
They will keep the party hopping at this year’s Journey to Jazz festival!
