What is Journey to Jazz?
Journey to Jazz is a true Karoo festival celebrating the rich history, art, and natural beauty of Prince Albert. Set at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains, this intimate event features local and international artists performing across the town. Visitors can enjoy music, masterclasses, local cuisine, stargazing, sunrise yoga, and exploring the Wolvekraal conservancy.
A project of the Prince Albert Community Trust (PACT), Journey to Jazz showcases the talent and dedication of local youth who crew the festival and who have been trained in hospitality, event management, and media. It’s a heartfelt celebration of community and culture, welcoming guests to the true spirit of the Karoo!
Who is PACT?
The Prince Albert Community Trust (PACT) is a non-profit focused on empowering children and youth, from early childhood development to entering the work place. Through arts, culture, and education, PACT fosters personal growth, social justice, and economic equality.
With a focus on education, well-being, and skills development, PACT identifies young people through annual indabas. The PACT youth leadership and strategic partners then work closely with this database of youth throughout the year in personal development, work ethic, project management and hospitality driving transformation and building a stronger, more inclusive community in Prince Albert and beyond.
How Does PACT Do It?
PACT’s Journey to Jazz is guided by the inspiring philosophy of local legend Outa Lappies: “Every day, make something out of nothing.” This spirit of creativity and resourcefulness shapes the festival, where experts, artists, and local champions mentor youth in arts, hospitality, and event management, preparing them to shine on the world stage.
Outa Lappies’ legacy lives on in every aspect of the festival, celebrating his belief in turning challenges into opportunities.
