The walk on Wolwekraal Nature Reserve covers 2 km along a narrow veld trail over open, flattish dry veld. It takes 2.0 to 2.5 hours. We discuss the formation of the landscape and interaction of plants and animals as well as issues such as climate change, weather patterns, grazing effects and approaches to ecological restoration. The walk passes through an archaeological site so you may imagine the lifestyles of the indigenous people who occupied the area prior to European colonisation around 1770.

Walkers meet the guide at the RenuKaroo Nursery shop opposite the Police Station in the main road of Prince Albert. You will need a vehicle to drive to the start of the walk 5 km North of the village on the R353. Remember to bring a hat, walking shoes, jacket and binoculars.

Walks are guided by ecologist Sue Milton-Dean, who has extensive knowledge of Karoo natural history, veld management and restoration. She is ably assisted by Collette Hurt, a local artist with considerable knowledge of local conditions, fauna, flora and archaeology.
