Wim Filmalter is a well weathered amateur astronomer doing presentations under the name of FilmStar Astronomy. He is well known in astronomy circles for his own design telescopes and equipment, some of which will be displayed and used during the presentations. He is also involved in the repair and restoration of historical telescopes, mainly at the SAAO in Observatory, Cape Town.

He has a thorough knowledge of astronomy topics, especially those relating to sizes, scale and rotations in space. The presentation will include informative talks and weather permitting, viewing of the night sky through telescopes and astronomical binoculars. The early session will still be able to view Jupiter with its moons in the west, as well as a setting crescent Moon. The second session will not be able to see Jupiter, but the crescent Moon will be visible at the beginning of the second session on the nights of 2 and 3 May. However, the sky is full of wonder, with a myriad of heavenly features visible right through the sessions.

The weather is the one factor that cannot be guaranteed. Closer to the time the weather forecast will determine what actions can be taken to make the best of the situation.
